Australia - Things To Do

Australia is a very exciting, fun place to visit.  There are many different kinds of things to do there and everyone will find something they like no matter what their interests are.   

If you are an adventurer, there are many things for you.  You can go whale watching.  Seeing these magnificent creatures is unforgettable.  Many coastal towns offer these trips.  Climbing the
Sydney Bridge is also fun.  You hook yourself to a cable and climb to the top of the arch.  Once you get up there, the view is absolutely beautiful.  

There are so many outdoor activities you can do in
Australia.  Their waters are perfect for sailing, surfing, snorkeling, kayaking and diving.  You can even go on balloon rides, bungee jumping, parasailing, skiing, backpacking, fishing, helicopter flights, whitewater rafting, or sky diving.   

Australia also has many landmarks that are worth visiting.  Ayers Rock is the largest monolith (single stone) in the world.  It is also an Aboriginal sacred site.  At the base of the rock there is Aboriginal art on it.  Aboriginal people are the indigenous inhabitants of Australia.  They have been there for over 50,000 years.  The Sydney Harbor Bridge is one of the longest one bow bridges in existence.  It was opened in 1932 and has an arch span of 503 meters.  It weighs 52800 tons!  The Sydney Opera House is another very popular landmark.  It is the busiest performing arts center in the world and opened in 1973.  On average, there are 3000 events every year that take place there!  There is also the Great Barrier Reef, which is the world's largest coral reef!  It is over 2300 kilometers long and stretches along the northeast coast of Australia from Queensland to north of Bundaberg.   

If you like wildlife,
Australia is the place to go.  The variety of animal life is very diverse.  There are actually 450 species of mammals that live in Australia as well as 300 species of lizards and 140 species of snakes!  Some of the popular animals people enjoy seeing include kangaroos, koala bears, wombats, Tasmanian devils, brushtail possums, ringtail possums, sugar gliders, feathertail gliders, dingos, flying foxes, dolphins, seals, sea eagles, wallabies, crocodiles and many species of birds.  Daintree National Park contains some of the oldest rainforest in the world.   

If you like art, here are many galleries, theatres, shows, festivals, exhibitions, museums and Aboriginal arts to see.  Even the buildings themselves are considered to be art! 

Australia also has some of the highest quality foods in the world.  Local food markets are located in every city.  Here, you can sample some of this amazing and diverse food.  Also, Australia is the seventh largest wine producer and makes extraordinary wines.   

In every city in
Australia you will also find a lot of shopping.  There are shopping complexes everywhere!  There are many specialty stores where you will find things that are not sold anywhere else in the world.  Sydney is the city with the most shopping so if you really enjoy shopping, this is the best place to go.   

As you can see,
Australia is a place that has something for everyone.  There are so many things to do there.  If you are planning on going there, you are sure to have a good time.
